Introduction [Biosketch]
- Dr. Purbayan Ghosh Mondal is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the National Institute of Technology Silchar, where he has been serving since January, 2026. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Transportation Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. He completed his Master’s degree in Transportation Engineering from the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur, and his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal. After completing his Ph.D., Dr. Mondal worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at IIT Kharagpur and IIT Bombay. He also received the prestigious postdoctoral fellowship at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Norway, where he was involved in multiple research projects on “Sustainable Value Chain and Material Use in Road Construction” funded by the Research Council of Norway and Innovation Norway. At NTNU, his work contributed towards the development of sustainable and greener road infrastructure in Norway. Prior to joining NIT Silchar, Dr. Mondal served as an Assistant Professor in the School of Construction and Technology at NICMAR University of Construction Studies, Hyderabad. Dr. Mondal’s research focuses on pavement engineering, with expertise in characterization of pavement materials, environment-friendly pavement construction technologies, cold recycling of bituminous pavements (using foamed bitumen and bitumen emulsion), hot recycling of bituminous pavements (particularly mixes with high RAP content), and warm mix asphalt (WMA). His academic contributions include eight SCI-indexed journal publications, one book chapter, and three international conference papers.
