SHORT BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Prof. Dilip Kumar Baidya joined as Director, National Institute of Technology Silchar in May, 2023. Earlier, he was the Professor and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering and Chairperson, Ranbir and Chitra Gupta School of Infrastructure Design and Management at Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. He joined IIT Kharagpur in 1994 and is a Professor of Civil engineering since 2008. He graduated in Civil Engineering in 1987 from Bengal Engineering College Shibpur (presently IIEST) and obtained M.E. and Ph.D. from IISc Bangalore in the year 1989 and 93, respectively. Having over 30 years of experience in teaching and research and guided more than 35 M.Tech. dissertations and 9 Ph.D. theses on Geotechnical Engineering. Held several administrative positions at IIT Kharagpur which includes responsible position like Vice Chairman/Chairman JEE for IIT Kharagpur zone, Prof In-charge Examination etc., Fellow of Indian Geotechnical Society and member of International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, Elected member of Executive committee of IGS for three consecutive terms 2017- 2022.
Prof. Baidya published more than 125 technical papers in National/international journals and conferences out of which 4 papers received the best paper award. Visited different countries for presenting papers in the international conferences and served 2 years as Faculty members in the University of West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago. Besides teaching and research, provided consultancy services to various industrial problems to Kolkata Port, Paradeep Port, NHAI, PWD, Indian railways, Haldia Petrochemicals, RVNL.
